Meet NFPA 70B with the team you already have.
NFPA 70B now requires infrared inspections of your electrical equipment at least once a year. ThermalSync lets your own electricians run them under normal load, on your schedule, and keeps every reading, finding, and fix in an audit-ready record.
- Inspect under normal load
- Intervals by asset condition
- Audit-ready records

From recommended practice to requirement.
The 2023 edition made NFPA 70B a standard. Facilities now need a documented electrical maintenance program, and infrared thermography is a required part of it.
ThermalSync runs the thermography part of that program, and gives your EMP coordinator the record to prove it.
A planning summary of the thermography requirements in NFPA 70B (2023). Always check the current edition and your authority having jurisdiction.
- Inspect electrical equipment at least every 12 months
- Set a frequency for every asset. Anything due soon or overdue is flagged before it slips.
- Every 6 months for Condition 3 equipment
- Tighten the interval on any asset with a history of urgent findings.
- Inspect under normal load, and record the load
- Your team inspects while equipment runs, and the load is kept with every inspection.
- Document temperature differences against a reference
- Assisted fault finding compares each point to similar components and records the ΔT.
- Keep records your auditor can review
- Every inspected component on record, nominal or not, with findings, fixes, and Inspection Reports in one trail.
One contractor day is not a program.
NFPA 70B asks for inspections under normal load. A single survey day only catches what happens to be running. Your team inspects each line while it runs, spread across the week and the year.
- Every line under load. Inspect each line while it runs, so every reading counts.
- Rounds that fit your shifts. One asset or a whole line, whenever it suits the crew.
- Repairs in planned stops. Book the fix into a changeover you already have.
- Under load
- 212/212
- Lines missed
- 0
- Lines stopped
- 0
Illustration: a week of production on four lines. A contractor survey on Wednesday's day shift misses Line 2, which is in a changeover and not under load. Your team inspects every line while it runs across the week, covering all 212 assets without stopping a line. A round on Tuesday flags an exception on Line 3, and the repair is booked into Sunday's planned stop.
Nothing slips past its interval.
Set a frequency for every asset: annual for most, every six months for Condition 3. ThermalSync tracks what is done, what is due soon, and what is overdue, across every facility.
- Efficient
- Your electricians run the whole inspection. No second crew on standby.
- Convenient
- Inspect under normal load, spread across the year.
- Complete
- Images, loads, findings, and fixes, ready for any audit.
Proof it was fine, not just what was wrong.
Contractor reports usually list the anomalies and little else. ThermalSync keeps a thermal image and reading for every component your team inspects, including everything running normally. If something fails later, you can show it was inspected and nominal on the day.
- Exceptions-only report
- 1 of 6 on record
- ThermalSync
- 6 of 6 on record
- If one fails in March
- Proof it was nominal in September
Illustration: one annual inspection on September 14, 2026 covering six components. Five are nominal and one, MCC-3 bucket 4B, is an exception at 189.2°F. An exceptions-only report would keep one of the six on record; ThermalSync keeps all six, so if a component fails months later there is proof it was inspected and nominal.
Ready when the auditor asks.
Every image, load, finding, and fix is already documented. When your insurer, auditor, or EMP coordinator wants it on paper, generate an Inspection Report in one click.
- Every image, measurement, and exception
- Severity criteria and inspector notes
- Numbered, signed off, and audit-ready
70B thermography, handled.
Keep the budget in-house
Replace the annual contractor survey with inspections your own team runs, and keep the know-how in your building.
Intervals by condition
Annual, six-month, or custom frequencies for each asset, so Condition 3 equipment gets the attention 70B asks for.
Temperature differences documented
Assisted fault finding compares each point to similar components and flags exceptions by severity, so every ΔT is on record.
Findings become work orders
Send exceptions to your CMMS with the thermal images attached, then re-inspect to prove the fix worked.
Program health at a glance
Coverage, due-soon, and overdue assets in one view, so your EMP coordinator never has to chase status.
One standard, every site
Run the same inspection program across every facility in your organization from a single account.
Is NFPA 70B mandatory now?
The 2023 edition changed NFPA 70B from a recommended practice to a standard. How it applies at your site depends on your authority having jurisdiction, your insurer, and your own safety policies, and many insurers and corporate programs already expect it.
How often does NFPA 70B require infrared inspections?
At least every 12 months for electrical equipment, and at least every 6 months for equipment in Condition 3. ThermalSync lets you set the frequency for each asset and flags anything due soon or overdue.
Can our own electricians do the inspections?
Yes. Once setup is done, any experienced team member can inspect, and assisted fault finding helps surface exceptions. Work on energized equipment follows your electrical safety program, and we recommend thermography training so your team knows what to look for.
Does ThermalSync cover our whole electrical maintenance program?
No, and it doesn’t try to. ThermalSync runs the thermography part of your program: scheduling, inspections, findings, work orders, and records. Other 70B tasks, like cleaning, torque checks, and insulation testing, stay with the maintenance tools you already use.
Will it work with the camera we already have?
Most likely. ThermalSync works with radiometric images from many popular thermal cameras, and your camera doesn’t need to be online. Ask us about yours.
What will an auditor see?
Audit-ready Inspection Reports and a complete activity trail: every image, measurement, exception, work order, and re-inspection, tied to the asset it came from. That includes the components that were running normally, so you can show what was inspected and when, not just what was wrong.
